During step in, the players who are active are required to keep on playing, improvising, until the absent player [ in tacet mode] joins in.

Until recently, and after many years of; either doing this exercise or similar, the requirement for those `in play` to continue has never been an issue.

However, recently (Winter 2019) this requirement has become problematic, despite the short duration of the exercises - each deployment of this exercise is usually to a fixed duration - some players/improvisers may not `continually play` - this causes confusions: no solution is being offered here, only to be aware of your group and their characteristics or personalities.

Causes: the improviser cannot keep on playing, chooses not to keep on playing, is unaware that there is an obligation to keep on playing

Unforeseen consequences

If one player cannot sustain continuous playing, maybe the player in `tacet mode` should notice this, and start to play, thus maintaining the conceit, the aim of the exercise.

This adds another skill to the piece, that is the `tacet` player has multiple reasons to start playing/improvising: one of them would be to acknowledge one player is wishing to drop out, to therefor change mode and start playing to help maintain the piece: `support` maybe a relational function to be considered.
