The Rotation of the clocks

Topic ticket number: T1240
Suggested by : Martin Hackett, Oxford Improvisers

Short description, using the Blank Canvas Octet
  • There are eight players
  • There are 8 clocks
  • The settings on the eight clocks will vary, that is the ratio of tacet time to freeplay,
  • Example : 8 players, duration 10 minutes, clock settings may include the following ratios as expressed in minutes [ tacet time: freeplay] 5:5, 2:8, 8:2, 6:4, 4:6, 3:7, 7:3, 5:5 - note in this example, if you add up the times, the group `density` or ratio is 50:50
  • The Players : each player will experience a range of - what? -
  • The ensemble sound: should the ensemble play 8 pieces [ unlikely ] the group sound will vary and reflect the `creative dynamic in the people, the instruments and the space` present. PM point of view, a significant outcome.
  • First tried: March 2019 by the Blank Canvas Octet, a positive experience, writes Phil Morton
